This Code of Ethics for the HoCo HRS chapter has been adopted to promote and maintain the highest standards of professional and personal ethics among its members. By joining this Chapter, a member indicates his/her support for upholding this Code and the understanding of his/her individual responsibility to act in accordance with the following items, thereby assuring that all Chapter activities support the development, networking, and educational intents of this professional organization.

As a member of the HoCo HRS chapter, I commit to:

Possess and exhibit the highest standards of professional and personal ethics, and professional competencies on a continual basis.

Strive for personal growth in the field of human resource management by personally pursuing and continually fostering professional development and/or certification through such programs as CCP, CBP, CEBS, PHR, SPHR and like opportunities.

Support SHRM’s goals and objectives for developing the human resource management profession and to further my understanding of how organizations work, so as to strategically align and integrate the profession into/with the organization.

Instill in the public and other HoCo HRS chapter members a sense of confidence about my competencies, ethics, and intentions to positively serve the chapter, and the greater business community.

Uphold all laws and regulations relating to my profession and to always behave fairly, ethically, and in a manner that fosters and embraces the individuality of all people in the workforce.

Refrain from using my official and/or professional positions, either regular or volunteer, to secure special privilege, gain or benefit myself, and ensure my actions or intentions are free from any potential or perceived conflicts of interest.

Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.

Recognize that HoCo HRS chapter meetings, events, and/or any other HoCo HRS activities are times for networking and development for the mutual benefit of the membership and the greater Howard County business community, not times for sales contacts or self-promotion. HoCo HRS membership rosters, directories, email lists, and/or any other HoCo HRS chapter resources are for official HoCo HRS use, only.
